Here are some ways AI can help you become better students:
- Use AI as a tutor. Ask it for study questions, FAQs, or even just disciple-specific information.
- Use AI to double-check your homework. It’s important to first answer/write your homework assignment by yourself first–don’t let AI replace your thinking, but you can use AI see if your thoughts are wrong. If your answer and AI’s answer differ, investigate, but do not automatically assume AI’s answer is correct.
- Use AI as a study partner. It can generate example test/quiz questions. This is especially useful in disciplines that are well-understood, like sciences. However, be on the lookout here for “hallucinations,” where AI predicted/invented the next word but but didn’t actually produce a correct answer.
- Make AI your reflection partner for learning and time management. Research shows that “thinking about thinking” and how you learn makes you a better learner and stronger student. Asking AI tools for metacognition practices and tips—as well as time management plans—can provide you with a free and supportive learning coach.
- When appropriate and permitted, use AI to help you brainstorm. We recommend that you brainstorm first on your own, and only then turn to AI to seek additional ideas. Attempting to brainstorm with AI first might make it difficult to come up with original ideas, since a list of ideas is already in front of you.
